After some cycling in the around Yangshou we rode on to Guilin. According to our guidebook there should be many tourists in Guilin, but possibly we had the wrong side of town (=center) whereas most touristgroups stayed in the hotels near the boats to Yangshuo. We had a hard time finding a restaurant where we did not have to pick a living animal, that we would like to have for diner... After a visit to the famous reet flute cave we took the same, very beautiful, route back to Yangshuo.
From Yangshuo we cycled via LiPu to Mengshan over a scenic road. Towards Mengshan it became more dusty and occasionally the road was gone for a few 100 meters. Through Mengshan and Teng Xian we cycled back to Zhaoqing. It was a very scenic route through the karst mountains and rice paddies. After another (short) visit to Zhaoqing we crossed the only and therefore heavily used bridge over the Xi river in many kilometers and arrived in Gaoyao. |

For some
time we cycled parallel to the railroad to the south.
The next day, while cycling from Doushan to Jingan it rained again. After two ferries we stopped for lunch before going on to the next ferry. The ferry was still there, but to our surprise the Chinese government had built an enormous bridge. Today 4 lanes, next year probably 6 and almost no traffic. Thankful for the shortcut we arrived ahead of schedule in Jingan (Doumen). |
