At early daybreak we climbed up the hill to visit the temple behind the guesthouse. We were so early that he monks were still busy with there morning rituals, and meditating in the early sunlight.

After an early lunch we got on the boat that would bring us to Chiang Rai. After about half an hour in the boat, the "captain" began to slow down since he could not get the water out of the boat with a bucket and steer at the same time. We helped him with the bucket….

From Chiang Rai we started cycling to Mea Salong. A town high up in the mountains (as we were to find out). After cycling 60 km out of the 71 we had to cycle to reach our destination, many drivers started to ask if we wanted a ride (which of course we did not want because we had our bicycles…) and apart from this, it looked like we were almost there.

One of the drivers kept driving slowly after
offering a ride but since we kept pushing (!) our bicycles he drove on. To our surprise he was waiting around the corner for us. We sensed something bad would be coming if he had taken this time to wait for us, so finally we agreed and climbed in the back of the truck and sat on the bamboo. And there it was….. After the next turn the road went down, in a very steep fashion of getting down. After this, the road went up again and down and up again. We even saw some cars that could not climb the road!!!. We got tired of even thinking we would have had to push our bicycles …..

In Mae Salong was a nice guesthouse with a spectacular view from a balcony. That evening we sat down at a diner table in a living room which in the case of arriving tourists became a restaurant.
