Practical

Guide
We found the Lonely Planet the most reliable guide. Also it is a great book because of the reports on hotels. Check the Lonely Planet site for updated information on Thailand.

Hotels
Most nights we stayed in low budget hotels. Hotel prices begin at 2$ for a double in low season.

Language
Thai, in tourist areas a few words of English.

People
People are friendly and helpful. Outside the tourist places there are not many touts.

Information

Eating
Very, very delicious !!!!!

Although you have to like spicy food. (Almost) everything we ordered was very good. Thailand is the land of food, starting at 5 AM and eating around four meals a day. The last one is at 6 PM sharp so don't be late, or there will not be anything left...

Malaysia has more Indonesia oriented cuisine. Also delicious but different, not so surprising since we, as I mentioned before somewhat grew up with Indonesian food.

The costs for food are really low in Thailand (2$), somewhat higher in Malaysia.

Drinking
Drink enough water when you cycle in Thailand or Malaysia. Be very sensitive about it. Water will do and a wonderdrink in these parts of the world is coca-cola. It is very good for cycling.:-)

Shopping
In the large cities are shops with souvenirs. Daily necessities
are in store everywhere.
